Basic Instinct 2 is subtitled “Risk Addiction” and is the 2006 sequel to the first Basic Instinct. It is directed by Michael Caton-Jones. It is a story that follows a suspected serial killer and novelist Catherine Tramell who once again finds trouble with the police. She is evaluated by a psychiatrist after a man dies. During this time, the psychologist becomes entangled in Tramell’s seductive games. The psychiatrist, Dr. Glass, is ordered by the court to perform the exam and provide testimony in the case and believes that Tramell is not only a sociopath but incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. It is during this time and amidst these games that Dr. Glass’s life begins to spiral out of control. Later, Tramell attempts to kill Tramell. The plot of the film continues in non-stop action and drama and it turns out that Tramell writes novels about the events. Eventually, she manipulates the psychiatrist into committing murders of his own and he ends up silent in a mental institution while Tramell

reveals it all and leaves with an eerily wicked expression.

The film had been greatly anticipated. It had undergone several edits and cuts and finally released with an R rating due to the sexual scenes, nudity, language and drugs. With the great anticipation, the film was not received well, many critics felt that it did not live up to its high expectations and the first Basic Instinct was considered much more entertaining.
